Uomo in mare (Man overboard)
“Man overboard, man overboard! “ The cry carries far over the sea, but the ship sails fast. A life jacket reaches you….an echo of the Dreamer’s voice calling you back home; a last act of compassion – but it’s too far away, and too thin to save you from the weight of your mediocre existence. What had seemed a protection will now be your demise. The waters of the ocean embrace and refresh you, but your warmth and light come from a source that dissipates over distance and dissolves in the surrounding depths. You think: “They’ll be back to get me”…but the navigation is sure and the ship sails straight on its star. Numb with cold and weighed by your ego you will soon sink. Dangling on the last thread of your insignificant life you muse in ignorance. ‘How much time do I have left?’ You’ll realize that all your life has been lived precariously, on a tightrope walked between dependence and expectancy, in the hope that someone could give you something real… to save you…but no help can come from outside, and the attempts made have already cost too many lives… The ship sails on! The icy waters begin to swallow you, your body immobile with the absence of will, and your heart racing – stronger and faster than the crashing waves. You give yourself up to fear . Flooding yourself with despair in an instant you recognize your most ardent dream being realized, and a cryptic voice rises from the abyssal depths of the ocean… the last words to be heard of the Dreamer… Who says, “All death is the end of an imaginary Life, and so finally, finally…you’ve succeeded.” |
